SM Mobile Traders – Terms, Policies & Conditions

1. Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Devices

Devices sold by SM Mobile Traders as “Pre-Owned” or “Refurbished” are previously used devices and are not brand new.

These devices may show minor cosmetic wear such as light scratches, scuff marks, or signs of use. Such imperfections are purely aesthetic and do not affect the functionality or performance of the device.

Where necessary, devices may have been serviced, repaired, or had components replaced by our qualified in-house technicians to ensure optimal performance.

Every device undergoes comprehensive testing and quality control checks to confirm full functionality and compliance with our standards prior to sale.

All devices include a 12-month warranty for customer peace of mind.

Due to the nature of pre-owned electronics, certain defects may only appear over time. Our warranty covers latent faults within the applicable warranty period.

Customers are encouraged to report any issues as soon as possible so that the device can be assessed and resolved efficiently.

By purchasing a pre-owned or refurbished device from SM Mobile Traders, you acknowledge and accept these terms.


2. Shipping & Delivery

SM Mobile Traders offers free nationwide delivery on all orders over R1000.

Orders below this amount are subject to a flat delivery fee of R100.

All orders are shipped via The Courier Guy and are insured by SM Mobile Traders.

Delivery is typically completed within 1–2 working days.

Customers may alternatively choose to collect orders from an SM Mobile Traders store.


3. Warranty & Guarantee

All devices include a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

What Is Covered

  • Internal hardware faults
  • Manufacturer-related defects

What Is Not Covered

  • Physical damage
  • Liquid damage
  • Battery wear and degradation
  • Software-related issues (including Apple software bugs)
  • Accessories such as chargers and cables

Warranty Process

  1. The device will first be inspected and repaired where possible.
  2. If repair is not possible, a replacement device of similar value and specifications will be provided.
  3. If no replacement is available, a refund may be issued.

Customers may bring devices directly to our store for assessment and repair.

A courtesy device may be provided during repairs (Cape Town in-store customers only).

For customers outside Cape Town, courier collection and return may be arranged.


4. Returns & Exchanges

Refund Policy

All sales are final. Refunds are not offered.

Exchange Policy

SM Mobile Traders offers a 7-day exchange policy or store credit subject to a 5% handling fee.

Conditions:

  • Device must be returned within 7 days of purchase
  • Device must be in original condition with no damage or misuse
  • All original packaging, accessories, and included items must be returned

Once approved after inspection, customers may exchange the device or receive store credit.

Customers outside Cape Town must return devices via courier at their own expense.

Devices must be securely packaged. SM Mobile Traders is not responsible for transit damage during returns.

Note: Opened accessories including covers and screen protectors cannot be exchanged.


5. Notices & Disclaimers

  • All product details and pricing are provided in good faith; however, errors may occur. SM Mobile Traders reserves the right to correct errors or cancel orders where necessary.
  • Any physical damage caused by the customer immediately voids the warranty.
  • Stock is subject to availability and may be sold before listings are updated.
  • Product images are for illustrative purposes only and actual items may vary.
  • Orders may be cancelled in cases of pricing errors, suspected fraud, or stock unavailability.

6. Selling Your Device to SM Mobile Traders

By selling a device to SM Mobile Traders, you agree to the following:

  • SM Mobile Traders is not responsible for incorrect banking details provided by the seller.
  • Sellers must provide documentation in accordance with the Second-Hand Goods Act, including identification and contact details.
  • All devices are subject to inspection and must meet our purchase criteria.
  • SM Mobile Traders reserves the right to accept or reject any device at its sole discretion.
  • Purchase offers remain valid for 14 days unless otherwise stated.
  • Sellers are responsible for backing up and removing all personal data before sale.

Selling Process

  1. Complete the online evaluation form.
  2. Cape Town customers:
    • Visit our store for assessment
    • Receive instant EFT payment if approved
  3. Outside Cape Town:
    • Courier device at seller’s expense
    • Device inspected upon arrival
    • Payment made if approved
    • If declined, return courier costs remain the seller’s responsibility

7. Repairs – Terms & Conditions

Repair Timeframes

  • Standard repairs: 1–2 working days
  • Complex repairs: Up to 5 working days (subject to parts availability)

3-Month Repair Warranty

Warranty covers replaced parts and workmanship only.

Exclusions:

  • Physical damage after repair
  • Liquid damage after repair
  • Software-related issues
  • Undisclosed pre-existing faults

Faulty replaced parts within the warranty period will be repaired at no additional charge.

Important Notes

  • SM Mobile Traders is a third-party repair provider.
  • Some devices, particularly iPhones, may display “Non-Genuine Part” notifications after repair.
  • These notifications do not affect functionality and remain outside our responsibility.

Loan Devices

  • Loan devices may be provided during repairs.
  • Customers assume full responsibility for the device.
  • Loss or damage will result in replacement charges.

Liability

  • Customers must back up all data before repair.
  • SM Mobile Traders is not liable for data loss.
  • SM Mobile Traders is not responsible for software issues.
  • Additional faults discovered during repair remain outside liability.

Collection

  • Full payment is required upon collection.
  • Devices not collected within 30 days may be sold to recover costs.

Security

All passwords, locks, and security features must be removed or provided before repairs commence.


8. Lay-Bye Terms

  • Maximum lay-bye period: 3 months (90 days)
  • Minimum deposit required: 30%
  • Full payment required before collection
  • Products remain property of SM Mobile Traders until paid in full

Cancellation

  • A 15% cancellation fee applies.
  • Remaining balance will be refunded where applicable.

Additional Terms

  • Failure to complete lay-bye results in cancellation.
  • Devices cannot be changed once lay-bye begins.
  • Prices remain locked during the lay-bye period.
  • Standard store policies apply once lay-bye is completed.

9. Blacklisted Devices

SM Mobile Traders takes fraud prevention seriously and checks all devices.

If You Sell a Blacklisted Device

The seller will be required to resolve the matter immediately.

Legal action may be taken where necessary.

If We Sell You a Blacklisted Device

SM Mobile Traders will replace the device within 7 working days provided:

  • The device is returned in original condition
  • No third-party repairs have been performed
  • The device remains fully functional
  • Original packaging (where applicable) is returned

10. Governing Law

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, including applicable consumer protection legislation.
